About the Programme

The Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Management programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding, and confidence they need to initiate and sustain real change within the complex and rapidly evolving Healthcare sector. It will benefit those wishing to develop existing or new roles, skills, and competencies for positions in a range of organisations within the healthcare setting. It will provide access to new perspectives on healthcare organisations, which will inform their future professional practice.

This programme will help students to develop an understanding of how healthcare organisations work and help them gain confidence to lead change in this sector, equipping them for employment in healthcare organisations such as public or government services, voluntary organisations, non-governmental organisations, and private organisations globally.

The programme provides an educational opportunity for students to develop their abilities in dealing with complex issues, demonstrating self-direction, and originality whilst continuing to advance their knowledge and understanding, and skills development. It is specifically designed to develop healthcare managers and leaders of tomorrow. Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Management, students have the opportunity to continue their studies to obtain a Master of Science Healthcare Management.

Graduation & Degree Awarded

Students who successfully complete and pass the modules stipulated in the programme structure will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Management from Northumbria University, United Kingdom.

The Degree will be the same as that awarded to the on-campus graduates in the United Kingdom.

Admission Criteria
Academic Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Management, an applicant must hold:

A Bachelor's Degree in a Health-related field (Allied Health, Dentistry, Environmental Health, Healthcare Management, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Public Health); OR

A Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated discipline (that is, a Degree in a discipline other than Allied Health, Environmental Health, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology Clinical Health, Public Health, Research or Biomedical Health).

English Language Requirements

Minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0); OR

Other approved equivalent*

In all cases, the final decision on admission to the programme rests with the University.

Working Experience

Minimum of five years’ equivalent full-time work experience in administration, management and leadership roles within healthcare organisations, and students would be expected to have career goals to work in Health-related organisations or the wider Healthcare sector.

Progression for students admitted to the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Management to the Master of Science Healthcare Management is dependent on achieving a minimum pass grade in all modules of the Postgraduate Certificate.
