About the Programme
In this Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health programme, students will have the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to launch or advance their public health careers. They will join a global community of professionals working to address modern, global public health challenges.
The programme will enable students to be competent at assessing, critically applying, and synthesising contemporary public health theory, policy and practice to provide evidence-based knowledge in the key public health areas of health improvement, epidemiology, and population health. It will enable them to apply their understanding of public health to underpin a range of interventions to improve public health outcomes, whether it be within government and non-government organisations, commissioning services, the voluntary sector, or community development.
By utilising critical appraisal and reflection, students will be encouraged to challenge their existing attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge, particularly in reference to the multi-dimensional determinants of epidemiology, health and well-being, and health improvement. They will be empowered to present and justify public health issues to their peers, and they will conceptualise and apply theoretical perspectives to complex public health practices or policies. Their career prospects will be broadened in the Public Health sector by gaining the necessary skills for professional public health practice across a broad range of settings including health promotion and improvement, policy formulation, public health intelligence, and planning population health programmes. Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health, students have the opportunity to continue their studies to obtain a Master of Public Health (MPH).
Graduation & Degree Awarded
Students who successfully complete and pass the modules stipulated in the programme structure will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from Northumbria University, United Kingdom.
